MylesDay 2014, the annual celebration of the life & works of Flann O’Brien, is going to be held, as always, on 1st April (a Tuesday this year), in the Palace Bar on Fleet Street, Dublin.
This is a free event, where dedicated Flannoracs perform for your entertainment, and to maintain the memory of one of Ireland’s true comic genius’s.
MylesDay 2014 is going to be the biggest MylesDay ever. There are over 25 confirmed performances – so many that it is going to be difficult to cram them all into the allocated time.
All the favourites will be there (The Brother, Bores, Catechism of Cliche, Sir Myles, and many, many more), plus other fascinating selections.
MylesDay is an informal event, come and go as you please, and take in as many of the performances as you like.
MylesDay will start at 3:00, and run until 7:30 (or possible a bit later).
But be warned – space is limited, so get there early to avoid disappointment!
If you only attend one Flann O’Brien event this year, make sure it is this one.
Hope to see you all on April 1st.

Yes, MylesDay is back for 2014.
Usual date (April 1st), usual venue (Palace Bar, Fleet Street, Dublin Town), usual time (starting some time during the afternoon – exact hour to be confirmed, watch this space), usual entrance fee (free).
And an unusually fine roster of enthusiastic Flannoracs & Myles Men, all dedicated to creating an excellent afternoon’s celebration of the life and works of Flann O’Brien.
There will be readings, performances, even a song or two, all from or inspired by Myles.
Got a favorite piece yourself? Then come along and share it with the assembled throng of like-minded Flann O’Brien fans.
Or just relax with a Pint of Plain, and soak up the atmosphere.
Although the 1st April falls on a Tuesday this year, Myles was well known to make the effort to attend the Palace Bar on a working day. So there’s no excuse not to come along.
Get that date in your diary now.

That’s the general consensus, that MylesDay goes from strength to strength.
Thanks to all of the performers who made MylesDay 2013 such a success.
The Palace Bar was packed to the rafters all afternoon, and those who arrived after 3:00 were sorely disappointed. They missed seeing over 20 different performances from the Works of Myles, that had the place in stitches all afternoon.

There has been a powerful response from the artistic community to support MylesDay 2013.
So far there are 20 confirmed performers.
And all are squeezed into a mere 3 hours, so minute for minute this is the densest Mylesian experience you will find this year, or perhaps ever.
Now all we need is the audience – that’s where you come in.
Here’s how it works. You arrive in the Palace Bar (Fleet Street, Dublin) at 3:00 on Monday April 1st, or a bit earlier if you want any chance of getting a seat. From 3:00 to 6:00 there will be readings & performances from the work of Myles. Roughly one every 10 minutes, with a little pause in between to allow you to wipe the tears from your eyes, and replenish your tipple.
And here’s the best bit: it’s free to attend, and you’re free to come and go whenever you want!
There will be readings from the best bits of The Best of Myles (the fillet of Myles, if you will), The Poor Mouth, The Dalkey Archive.
There will be songs, and talking in up to two languages.
Be gob, it’ll all be there.

So MylesDay 2013 is an official “Gathering” event.
It’s true, you can check it out here.
You could not expect us to see a band-wagon this large lumbering past without jumping on it.
What would Myles have to say about such pseudo state-sponsorship of his memory?
“Strong words”, most likely.
